During a workout, Jillian Michaels or Bob Harper would not be my friends. As inspiring as they are, I don’t do well with the tough love. Me? I’m more an “I’ll do things my way, and at my pace thank you very much” kind of kid.
Of course, this leaves me with the challenge of needing to find my own motivation to get out there and get my blood pumping, my own will power to keep jogging when it would be so much easier to walk. Given my personality, I need gentle, yet strong encouragement, and I need it to come from inside me.
Roll call. Enter Peppermint, stage left.
One drop on my tongue as I’m heading out the door, and I’m all set. I know I can trust my stamina to stay with me. I know that the slight tingle in my chest will serve as a warm reminder of my sincere intention to live a healthy, vibrant life. I know that I can expect that sought-after final burst of energy at the close of my workout. If I’m planning on a longer session, I also rub one drop onto my wrist. Breathing in this revitalizing oil will squash fatigue and call upon energy reserves that surprise me every time.
There’s no yelling, no guilt, no feelings of inadequacy if I don’t keep up with someone else’s idea of how much I should be able to accomplish, and how quickly. It’s just me, and my magical road buddy that came out of a small green bottle. And here’s the real kicker: that road buddy only costs me seventeen cents per workout.
Kind of sounds like the perfect personal trainer, doesn’t it?
